Works Specific Requirements (WSR)

From contract specific appendices to Works Specific Requirements

The old contract specific appendices in the Notes for Guidance have been replaced by Works Specific Requirements (WSR) derived from the specifier instructions contained in the main text of the Instructions for Specifiers (IfS) documents. For each IfS document there is a WSR references section that lists all the WSRs referenced by the associated SHW document. All WSR templates for a given SHW document are provided in a single file for ease of use.

WSR templates

WSR templates are available in XML-based open-source files (.ods) on the Standards for Highways website to give the specifier a clear, consistent, and complete format to support the development of a contract-specific specification, see Figure 1.

WSR grouping

Specifier instructions are logically grouped into WSR templates. These are typically aligned to SHW sections, although a WSR template may encompass multiple SHW sections where it assists completion.

WSR numbering system

WSR templates have references based on the SHW document code, e.g. CC 201/WSR/001. The last three digits in the WSR codes may not always be consecutive so as to maintain alignment with the associated SHW document’s section.

WSR content

The WSR templates contain all the individual specifier instructions to be completed alongside the reference to the associated SHW clause. The WSR template is also used to capture the relevant departures from the MCHW (Additional Requirements, Cancelled Requirements or Substitute Requirements) under a relevant tab, see Departures.

WSR country-specific versions

Country specific WSR templates are provided for each Instruction for Specifier (IfS) document. Users are responsible for selecting and applying all documents appropriate to their contract.
