CC 120 – Construction of permanent traffic signs, road markings and road studs
- Permanent Road Markings:
- A two-year minimum performance threshold for durability (i.e. minimum performance characteristics such as retro-reflectivity, skid resistance and luminance) has been introduced (CC 120 section 7).
- To ensure road markings meet the design and construction requirements as well as compliance with the applicable TSRGD, post-installation verification of road marking dimensions by measurement has been introduced (CC 120 7.26-7.28 and 7.33-7.34 and CD 120 8.11).
- To ensure that the installation of road markings comply with legislation and standards, documentation/ evidence is required to be submitted prior to handover.
- Permanent Upright Traffic Signs:
- To ensure traffic sign with light-emitting or mechanical variable message traffic signs, globes, flashing lights meet the necessary design & construction requirements, verification testing for each sign has been introduced. Supporting documentation will also be submitted to the Overseeing Organisation prior to handover (CC 120 – 1.10-1.16).
- A new requirement is being introduced that requires that all new multi-panel traffic signs are to be fitted with panel butting plates or clamps (CC 120 – 2.3).
- To ensure that the installation of traffic signs complies with legislation and standards, documentation/ evidence is required to be submitted prior to handover.
CC 130 – Construction of temporary traffic signs, road markings and road studs
- New instruction for specifiers to specify retroflection class based on the requirements of CD 130.
- New clause on cone performance requirements setting out the minimum lawful requirements.
- Clarification of test frequency relating to the removal of both permanent and temporary markings.
CC 133 – Construction of temporary automatic speed cameras at road works (TASCAR)
A modified requirement for commissioning, calibration, inspection, measurement and testing of each TASCAR installation has been included in CC 133 (clauses 1.15-1.20) to clarify the TASCAR supplier’s obligations. These modified requirements in CC 133 will oblige the supplier to undertake a range of verification activities in accordance with a supplier-developed TASCAR commissioning and calibration plan and a supplier-developed TASCAR inspection, measurement and testing plan (CD 133 clauses 4.1-4.5) and produce documentation (CC 133 clauses 1.28-1.29) akin to the evidential trail requirements in the current MCHW series 100.
