TC 101 – Traffic Signalling Systems

  1. New Section 7 covers product and installation requirements for power supply feeder pillars that may need to be installed for traffic signals.
  2. New clauses to clarify requirements for the jointing of cables that they should only be installed for detector loops, unless otherwise informed by the design.
  3. Asset identification label requirements have been included to ensure that all assets relating to traffic signalling systems are labelled for maintenance.
  4. New clauses still require covers of traffic signal heads when not in use to be opaque and of a non-damaging material. In addition new requirements specify that the covers should be securely fixed and fully cover the equipment.
  5. Requirements for cable termination, testing, earthing and installation in ducts have been moved from Series 1400 into TC 101 to differentiate traffic signalling systems from street lighting.
  6. New clauses now include an explicit requirement for the preparation of an inspection and test plan (ITP) to detail the tests required and to provide evidence of compliance with the new SHW requirements and WSR.
  7. New clauses detail verification requirements for detectors other than detector loops, and for the installation of chambers.
  8. New section 6 now covers requirements for auxiliary equipment cabinets for traffic signalling systems. Requirements are included for the product and the installation.

TC 131 – Roadside Technology and Communications

  1. Introduction of 1.5 m distance of works from Telecommunications Services Provider assets.
  2. Removed requirement for duct plugs in longitudinal ducts, unless the chamber the longitudinal ducts are terminated in is subject to flooding or presence of gas.
  3. New requirements to cover maintenance hardstanding requirements at above ground detector locations, CCTV locations, EAV locations and non-HADECS locations.
  4. New requirements added to ensure that all cabling to the surface mounted ERTs are protected, and the service life of the product is not reduced by damage to the cables.
  5. New requirement added for marker tape to incorporate a detectable metallic trace wire.
  6. New requirements relating to verification requirements for signal visibility using drive by videos and CCTV coverage recorded using coverage drawings.
